How to Upload a World Save to Your Valheim Server

Updated September 18, 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

You can run an existing singleplayer world on your Valheim server by uploading its save files.

Locate your local world files

On Windows, Valheim stores each world in its own folder here:

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local\<WorldName>\

If Steam Cloud saving is on for the world, it may only exist in the Steam cloud folder instead:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<AccountID>\892970\remote\

In that case, select the world in the in-game world list and use Move to Local first, then copy it from worlds_local.

Since Valheim 1.0, the world's folder contains one or more numbered sets of _main.N.fwl2, _main.N.db2, _main.N.chunks and _main.N.ok files, plus one .chunk file per piece of terrain. Upload the whole folder as it is. Don't rename, remove or pick out individual files.

A world that hasn't been loaded since before 1.0 is a flat <WorldName>.fwl and <WorldName>.db pair directly in worlds_local, not a folder. Upload both files together. The server converts them to the folder format on its first save.

Upload the save files

  1. Stop your server in the Game Control Panel.
  2. Using the File Manager, delete the files inside the cache folder before uploading.
  3. Use the File Manager or an FTP client to navigate to the worlds_local folder on the server. If the folder does not exist, create it.
  4. Upload your world's folder into the worlds_local folder on the server.
  5. In the control panel, click the Command Line Manager button.
  6. Click Select on the "Default" command line.
  7. Set the World Name field to match the name of your uploaded world folder. For example, if the folder was called MyWorld123, set the world name to MyWorld123.
  8. Save and select the command line, then start the server.

The server will load your uploaded world on the next start. To roll back to a previous save later, see Restore Backup.
