7 Days to Die Console Commands (V3.2 Full List)

by Clay B.

Console commands are the fastest way to fix a problem on a 7 Days to Die server, run an event, or test something without grinding for it. This guide covers how to open the console, how to give yourself (or your mods) permission to use it on a dedicated server, and the commands that come up most, grouped by what they do.

Everything below was checked against V3.2.0, the current stable build as of September 2026. A lot of older command lists online still include commands that were removed years ago, so there's a short section near the end on what no longer works.

How to open the console

On PC, press F1 in-game. On some keyboard layouts the console is bound to a different key: the official wiki lists " for US layouts, @ for some EU layouts, and Ö/Ø/F2 on Scandinavian keyboards. Type a command, press Enter, and press F1 again to close it.

Two things are worth knowing before you start typing:

  • help is your friend. help on its own lists every command in your build. help teleport shows the full syntax for one command, and help * time searches names and descriptions for "time". If you run mods, they can add their own commands, and help is the only list that will show them.
  • Type names exactly. Item and buff names have to match the game's internal name, capitals included, so copy them from listitems rather than typing from memory.

PS5 and Xbox

The console editions don't have the F1 command console. If you play on PS5 or Xbox on a crossplay dedicated server, commands like kick, ban and teleport are run from the server side instead: through your host's web console, telnet, or by a PC player with admin rights. If you're setting one up, our guide to enabling crossplay on your 7 Days to Die server covers the server settings.

Getting admin access on a dedicated server

In single player you already have full access, so every command works. On a dedicated server, most commands need admin permission first.

Permissions live in serveradmin.xml, which sits in the server's Saves folder (the file name is set by AdminFileName in serverconfig.xml). An admin entry looks like this:

<users>
    <user platform="Steam" userid="76561198012345678" name="Clay" permission_level="0" />
</users>

Epic and crossplay players use platform="EOS" with their EOS ID instead of a Steam64 ID.

How the levels work:

  • 0 is full access. 1000 is the default for anyone who isn't listed, which means no admin rights at all.
  • Lower number = more power. A player can run a command if their level is equal to or lower than the level the command requires.
  • Commands default to level 0. Unless you change it, only full admins can run anything. That's the part that trips people up when they give a moderator level 100 and nothing works.

If you want to give moderators a handful of commands without handing over the keys, set the command's level with cp and give the moderator a matching level:

cp add kick 100
cp add ban 100
admin add Steve 100

Now Steve can kick and ban, but can't shut the server down or spawn items.

You can also add admins from the console itself once someone already has access, or from a web console. On Host Havoc, the Web Console in your control panel works for this even before anyone is an admin. Our step-by-step guide on making yourself an admin on your 7 Days to Die server walks through both the file method and the web console.

Turning on cheats: creative menu and debug mode

There are two "cheat" toggles, and they're easy to mix up:

CommandWhat it does
cm (creativemenu)Turns the creative menu on or off. Once it's on, press U to open it and take any item or block.
dm (debugmenu)Turns debug mode on or off. This adds god mode, fly/noclip and the F6 entity spawner on top of the creative menu.

Both are admin-only on a dedicated server unless you lower their level with cp. Debug mode's key bindings have shifted between builds (older wikis say Q toggles god mode, some newer guides say G), so if a key doesn't do what you expect, check Options > Controls.

One warning: spawning quest items or dropping thousands of blocks with the creative menu on a live save can cause odd problems later. If you're experimenting, do it on a copy of the world.

7 Days to Die console command list

Syntax uses <angle brackets> for required values and [square brackets] for optional ones. Where a command takes a player, you can use their name, their entity ID, or their platform ID (like Steam_76561198012345678). lpi shows all three. Platform IDs also work for players who are offline.

Player and server management

CommandWhat it doesExample
listplayers (lp)Lists everyone online with their position, health and other details.lp
listplayerids (lpi)Lists players with the entity IDs and platform IDs other commands need.lpi
kick <player> [reason]Kicks a player.kick Steve "Read the rules"
kickall [reason]Kicks everyone. Handy before a restart.kickall "Restarting in 1 minute"
ban add <player> <duration> <unit> [reason]Temporary or long ban. Units: minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years.ban add Steve 2 days "Griefing"
ban remove <player>Lifts a ban.ban remove Steve
ban listShows current bans.ban list
admin add <player> <level>Sets a player's permission level (0 is full access).admin add Steve 0
admin remove <player>Removes their admin entry.admin remove Steve
admin listShows everyone with a permission level.admin list
cp add <command> <level>Sets the level a command requires.cp add kick 100
cp listShows command permission overrides.cp list
whitelist add <player>Adds a player to the whitelist. As soon as one entry exists, nobody else can join.whitelist add Steve
whitelist remove <player> / whitelist listRemoves an entry or shows the list.whitelist list
say <message>Sends a server message to everyone.say "Blood moon tonight, get inside"
sayplayer <player> <message> (pm)Private message to one player.pm Steve "Check your land claim"
unlock [player id]Force unlocks inventories (for everyone, or one player).unlock
saveworld (sa)Saves the world right now.sa
shutdownSaves and shuts the server down cleanly.shutdown

Use shutdown rather than killing the server process. A graceful shutdown writes the save; killing the process mid-save is how chunks get corrupted.

Items and XP

CommandWhat it doesExample
giveself <item> [quality] [count] [putInInventory] [spawnWithMods]Gives you an item. Quality defaults to 6, count to 1. Set the fourth value to true to put it straight in your inventory instead of dropping it at your feet.giveself gunRifleT3SniperRifle 6 1 true
give <player> <item> <amount> [quality]Drops an item in front of another player.give Steve resourceForgedIron 100
listitems <search> (li)Searches item names. listitems * lists everything.li sniper
giveselfxp <amount>Gives you XP.giveselfxp 10000
givexp <player> <amount>Gives another player XP.givexp Steve 5000
givequest <quest name>Gives you a quest. givequest complete completes all your quests, and givequest tieradd 10 adds trader tier points.givequest complete
removequest <quest name>Removes a quest.removequest <quest name>
challenges complete all [r]Completes all challenges. Add r to redeem them too. challenges list shows them.challenges complete all r

Teleporting

CommandWhat it doesExample
teleport <x> <y> <z> (tp)Teleports you to coordinates. Use -1 for y to land on the ground.tp 500 -1 -1200
teleport <x> <z>Same thing, always on the ground.tp 500 -1200
teleport <player>Teleports you to another player.tp Steve
teleport offset <x> <y> <z>Moves you relative to where you're standing.tp offset 0 20 0
teleportplayer <player> <x> <y> <z> (tele)Teleports someone else to coordinates.tele Steve 500 -1 -1200
teleportplayer <player> <target player>Teleports one player to another.tele Steve Alice
tppoiOpens a POI teleporter window so you can jump to a named location.tppoi

The coordinates on your map are shown as E/W and N/S. In commands, east is positive x, west is negative x, north is positive z and south is negative z. So "500 E, 1200 S" is tp 500 -1200.

Time and weather

CommandWhat it doesExample
gettime (gt)Shows the current day and time.gt
settime <day> <hour> <minute> (st)Sets the day and time.st 12 8 0
settime <time>Sets time as a raw value, where 1000 is one hour.st 20000
settime day / settime nightThe game's own help says these jump to day 1 at noon and day 2 at midnight, so on a long-running world use the full day/hour/minute form instead.st night
shownexthordetimeShows when the next wandering horde is due.shownexthordetime
weather Rain <0-1>Sets rain intensity. -1 goes back to default.weather Rain 1
weather Fog <density>Sets fog density.weather Fog 0.5
weather Storm <hours> <biome>Starts a storm in a biome for a number of in-game hours.weather Storm 2 <biome>
weather dResets all weather overrides to default.weather d

Changing the time jumps timers that depend on it. Bedroll and land claim expiry, quest timers and the blood moon schedule all run off the game clock, so take a backup before making big jumps on a live server.

Spawning and killing

CommandWhat it doesExample
spawnentity <player id> <entity number> [count] (se)Spawns 1 to 100 of an entity around a player. Use 0 as the player ID for yourself.se 0 <entity number> 5
spawnentityat (sea)With no arguments, lists entity class names. With <class name> <x> <y> <z> [count] it spawns them at a position.sea
spawnwandering h (spawnw)Spawns a wandering horde. This replaced the old spawnwh.spawnw h
spawnscouts [player or x y z]Spawns zombie scouts near you, another player, or a position.spawnscouts Steve
spawnairdropSpawns an air drop.spawnairdrop
spawnsupplycrateSpawns a supply crate where you're standing.spawnsupplycrate
killall [alive / all]Kills all enemies. alive includes animals, all includes everything else. It never kills players.killall
kill <entity id or player>Kills one entity, or a player by name.kill Steve

Player status and buffs

CommandWhat it doesExample
buff <buff name>Applies a buff to you.buff <buff name>
debuff <buff name>Removes a buff from you.debuff <buff name>
buffplayer <player> <buff name>Applies a buff to someone else.buffplayer Steve <buff name>
debuffplayer <player> <buff name>Removes a buff from someone else.debuffplayer Steve <buff name>
thirsty [percent]Drops your water to the given percent.thirsty 20
starve [percent] (hungry, food)Drops your food to the given percent.starve 20
exhaustedMakes you exhausted.exhausted
gamestageShows your current game stage.gamestage
spectator (sm)Toggles spectator mode.sm
switchview (sv)Switches between first and third person.sv
settempunit <F or C> (stu)Switches temperature display between Fahrenheit and Celsius.stu C

Buff names aren't shown anywhere in the menus. exportcurrentconfigs writes all of the game's current XML files (including buffs, and any changes from mods) to a Configs folder inside your save, and you can look up names there.

Server info and troubleshooting

CommandWhat it doesExample
versionShows the game version and loaded mods. Check this first after an update.version
getgamepref [filter] (gg)Shows current server preferences.gg Telnet
getsandboxoptions [true] (gso)Shows the world's sandbox options. By default only non-default values, add true for all of them.gso true
setgamepref <name> <value> (sg)Changes a preference while the server runs. It doesn't carry over a restart, so make permanent changes in the config.sg <name> <value>
listents (le)Lists every entity loaded. Useful when you suspect too many zombies or vehicles.le
memPrints memory use and runs garbage collection.mem
chunkcache (cc)Lists loaded chunks.cc
loglevel <INF/WRN/ERR/EXC/ALL> <true/false>Filters log output on your current telnet or web console session. Doesn't work in the in-game console.loglevel WRN false
exportcurrentconfigsDumps the game's live XML configs to your save folder.exportcurrentconfigs

Since V3.0, most gameplay settings (difficulty, XP multiplier, day length, blood moon frequency, loot abundance and others) moved out of serverconfig.xml and into sandbox options, set with a SandboxCode. If you're used to changing those in the config file, see how to add a sandbox code to your 7 Days to Die server.

Commands that can wipe things

These are in the game for a reason, but they permanently change or delete world data. Back up your save before touching any of them.

CommandWhat it does
chunkreset (cr)Rebuilds the chunks in a coordinate range, or the POI you're standing in. Anything built there is gone.
regionreset (rr)Resets chunks across a region.
worldchunkreset (wcr)Resets every unprotected chunk in the world. Added in V3.0.
smoothworldall (swa)Smooths terrain across the whole world.
resetallstatsWipes achievement stats.

If you want a fresh start, our guide on resetting or wiping your 7 Days to Die server world is the safer route.

Commands that no longer work

If you're copying commands from an old guide (including an older version of this one), these are the usual culprits. None of them are in the V3.2 command list:

Old commandWhat to use now
spawnwhspawnwandering h
llp / listlandclaimThis came from Alloc's Server Fixes mod, not the base game.
clear, deathscreen, staticmap, sounddebug, updatelighton, exportitemiconsRemoved. There's no replacement.
giveselfskillxpRemoved back in the alpha days. Use giveselfxp.
setgamepref for difficulty, day length, loot or blood moon settingsThose are sandbox options now (V3.0 and later).

Finding item names

giveself and give need the internal item name, which is never the name you see in game. A sniper rifle is gunRifleT3SniperRifle, for example. The quickest way to find one is listitems with part of the name:

listitems sniper
listitems forged

A few names people ask for a lot: resourceForgedIron, resourceWood, ammo9mmBulletBall, medicalFirstAidKit, drinkJarBoiledWater and casinoCoin (Dukes). If one of these doesn't work on your build, listitems will show you the current name.

FAQ

How do I use console commands in 7 Days to Die?

Press F1 on PC, type the command and press Enter. On a dedicated server you'll need admin permission first, which is set in serveradmin.xml or with admin add from a web console.

What are the cheat commands in 7 Days to Die?

The main ones are cm for the creative menu (then U to open it), dm for debug mode (god mode, fly and the entity spawner), giveself for items, giveselfxp for XP and tp for teleporting.

Is there a cheat menu in 7 Days to Die?

Yes, the creative menu. Type cm in the console and press U. On a dedicated server you need admin rights for cm unless the server owner has lowered its permission level.

Does 7 Days to Die have admin commands?

Yes. kick, ban, whitelist, admin, cp, say, saveworld and shutdown are the ones you'll use most as a server admin. They're in the first table above.

How do I give myself XP?

giveselfxp 10000 gives you 10,000 XP. To give another player XP, use givexp <player> <amount>.

Why does my command say I don't have permission?

On a dedicated server, commands require level 0 by default. Either your serveradmin.xml entry is missing or wrong (check your Steam64 or EOS ID), or you gave yourself a level higher than 0 without lowering the command's level with cp add.

Does saveworld back up my server?

No. It writes the current world to disk, which is useful before a restart, but it doesn't make a copy you can roll back to. For that you need an actual backup of the save folder.

Run your own 7 Days to Die server

All of the admin commands above work best on a server you control. If you'd rather not keep a PC running, Host Havoc's 7 Days to Die servers come with a web console in the control panel, so you can run commands without being in game, plus one-click mod installs and branch switching. If you're still deciding, our guide to setting up a 7 Days to Die server covers the basics.
